Heritage Burlington Feb. 7 Fair celebrates Sir John A. Macdonald

On Sat. Feb. 7, the Burlington Heritage Fair at the Burlington Central Library will celebrate the bicentennial of Sir John A. Macdonald and the 50th anniversary of the Canadian flag.

From 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. the event and will include a free day of seminars, interactive displays and exhibits by local heritage organizations. This year’s fair will also include interactive children’s activities, including a Town Crier Contest with prizes for the winner and runner-up.

“We are fortunate to live in one of Canada’s best cities, one with a rich history and a promising future,” said Mayor Rick Goldring. “I encourage everyone to come and enjoy the Heritage Fair and gain a better understanding of the important things that make us who we are in Burlington and in Canada.”

11:30 a.m.: “Sir John A. Macdonald Life and Times” - Robin McKee

Noon (in Centennial Hall): Junior Town Crier contest for children eight to 10 years, with Burlington Town Crier David Vollick

12:30 p.m.: “Agnes Macdonald, the Second Wife of John A. Macdonald’ - Pauline Grondin

1:30 p.m.: “Victorian Medicine” - Jim Taggart

2:30 p.m.: “Slavery, Sophia Pooley and Joseph Brant” - Jane Mulkewich
