Help flood victims this weekend at Rotary Ribfest

Four Burlington Rotary Clubs have joined forces this weekend at Ribfest to raise donations for the Burlington Flood Relief Fund.

“When Mayor Goldring, a fellow Rotary club member, approached us about doing something to support the Burlington Flood Relief at Ribfest we didn’t hesitate,” said Linda Davies, Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore President. “Please give generously and together, you and Rotary will help our city with one of its toughest challenges ever.”

The 19th annual Canada’s Largest Ribfest takes place Labour Day Weekend, August 29th- September 1st this year at Spencer Smith Park. Donations can be made at the entrance gates to Ribfest and at ticket selling stations across the park.

The Ontario Disaster Recovery Assistance Program will provide a two for one matching of money raised by the Burlington Flood Relief Fund. The Fund was created by the United Way.

Canada’s Largest Ribfest is a fundraising initiative of the Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore, which attracts an average of 150,000 people each year to Spencer Smith Park in Burlington, Ontario every Labour Day Weekend. The event's goal is to create an amazing family friendly community event, promote volunteerism and to raise funds to do some good in the world.

The annual free family event award-winning ribbers from across North America to sell food and compete for the title of Best Ribs, while a variety of talented musicians perform over the course of the four-day event and vendors to purchase unique products from. To date over $3 million dollars have been donated to local and international charities.

The Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore is one of four Rotary clubs in Burlington, Ontario. It forms part of a 1.2 million strong member network of 33,000 clubs in 200 countries who volunteer their time and talent to further the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self.”

As a worldwide service club and volunteer organization of business men and women members of Rotary, the club advocates and supports the global eradication of polio and other health programs, promotes peace and programs involving access to clean water and literacy.
