Free Thursday night at the movies

The City of Burlington is inviting residents to enjoy a free movie under the stars, presented by Tim Hortons, every Thursday night until August 14. Frozen will be the first movie on July 10 at Nelson Park.

“Tim Hortons is pleased to support the City of Burlington’s Movies Under the Stars series again this year,” said Julie Granger, regional marketing manager with Tim Hortons. “The Burlington restaurant owners love the outdoor movies and the opportunity to say thank you to their loyal guests with a free movie in their neighbourhood parks.”

The movies are shown on 25 by 14 foot (7.62 by 4.27 metre) outdoor viewing screen and begin at 9 p.m. on each on the following dates:

Thursday, July 10 Nelson Park -- Frozen

Thursday, July 17 Kiwanis Park -- Muppets: Most Wanted

Thursday, July 24 Optimist Park --Turbo

Thursday, July 31 Emerson Park -- Rio 2

Thursday, August 7 Lowville Park -- Enders Game

Thursday, August 14 Mohawk Park -- Mr. Peabody & Sherman

“The popularity of the City of Burlington’s movie series has grown each summer,” said Denise Beard, the city’s manager of community development. “The movies are selected based on neighbourhood demographics and residents are encouraged to walk or bike to their neighbourhood park for the movie.”

The City of Burlington is encouraging residents bring their own lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a night of family-friendly fun. Washrooms and limited parking are available at each park.
