Get out to Appleby Car-Free Street Festival

The third annual Appleby Car-Free Street Festival is back Sun., June 8 from 1 - 5 p.m.

Appleby Line between Fairview St. and New St. will be closed to traffic but will become alive with free activities such as pony rides, face-painting, live music, bouncy castles, demonstrations and refreshments.

“I encourage everyone to get up, get out and get moving,” said Ward 5 Councillor Paul Sharman. “The Car-Free Street Festivals gives residents a chance to enjoy alternative transportation methods in a safe environment.”

“The event was a great success last year, filling Appleby Line with thousands of people who celebrated with their neighbours and enjoyed the day,” said Ward 4 Councillor Jack Dennison. “The festival is a great way to build community relationships and meet new people in our neighbourhood, including those who run our local businesses.”

The Appleby Car-Free Street Festival is hosted by both councillors. The Ward 6 Car-Free Street Festival is hosted by Ward 6 Councillor Blair Lancaster on Palladium Way.

“These festivals bring families and neighbourhoods together by transforming the streets into a pedestrian-friendly hub, while supporting transportation alternatives like walking, riding and roller-blading,” said Mayor Rick Goldring. “What a great way to create vibrancy in our neighbourhoods.”
