Appleby cleans up

Want to meet your neighbors and make the Appleby area more beautiful?

Then come out to the third annual Burlington Green and City of Burlington Clean Up Green Up event Sat. April 26 from 9:00 am to noon.

Over the last three years, participation has increased from 5,500 to more than 13,500. More than 8,100 kg of garbage, 450 kg of paper and plastic, 385 kg of metal and 31 tires have been picked up.

The impact includes cleaner parks, streams, school yards and neighborhoods. School groups, businesses and other concerned groups have organized clean up parties to tackle the trash, which include:

Ginnan -Spruce Ave. between Camelot and Shoreacres, Shoreacres Rd between Spruce and Lakeshore, around Paletta park area

Environment Wizards (Frensch family)-Nelson Bike Park Dirtjumps & surrounding park areas & along creek.

Pauline Johnson P.S.-School yard and gardens along the bike path from Longmoor Dr. west to Nelson Arena (including the creek area)

Lester B. Pearson H. S.- school grounds and area Travelpath - Along the South Service Rd. from Appleby Line to Walkers Line - areas around 4190 South Service Rd (Travelpath office).

Tecumseh School - Tecumseh school yard and neighbouring green space, the path across from Assumption H.S., and east side of Central Park.

Canadian Martyrs Catholic School - All around the school area 3201 Lansdown Drive

Dr Charles Best P.S. - school yard, Sycamore Park and neighbourhood.

The Bell Family - Tansley Woods Park & Silvan Forest Drive from Mainway to Transley Woods Park.

Eco Waste Solutions ( @eco_waste) -Sherwoood Park area

Orchard Park PS -School Grounds and Pathfinder Park, Neighbourhood areas

Halton Waldorf School - Orchard Rd. walkway & both sides of Orchard Rd from HWS to Upper middle (including around pond at Upper Middle); public green space around and including trail from Orchard to subdivision pond at end of Duchess Court (including around pond); parkette at end of Quinte St.; green space and creek between Orchard and Brada park; east side of Brada park

Blyth Academy Burlington - Century Drive, between Harvester and South Service Rd on the West side of the street.

JUST MY WIFE AND I - Sheldon Forest Corpus Christi School - School grounds and creek west of school

Pineland Public School - School grounds and Sheldon creek

Frontenac Public School - Frontenac public school grounds Pinedale to Timberlane.

If you want to get involved there are still groups looking for volunteers, which include:

Garbage Guppies - walking path between Appleby Line and Longmoore Rd.

BDA Preschool - Commerce Crt. area and creek Burlington Women's Rec Soccer League - General Brock/ Gary Allen site- soccer fields, and parkland , forest.

Lampman Park Neighbours - Lampman Park - Lampman Avenue

Burlington Alliance Church and Pineland Baptist Church -Sherwood Park Bike Path starting at Appleby Line and running East South Orchard - Sutton and Blue Spruce ravine
