May 9 Bronte Creek Clean-Up event
You can thank the hard work of volunteer organization such as the Field and Stream Rescue Team for helping to keep Bronte Creek near Appleby Line pristine.
To keep it that way, the organization will be cleaning up a section of Bronte Creek along Avalon Drive in Burlington on Saturday May 9. They’re looking for 30 or more physically fit volunteers to help remove garbage along a steep hill.
If you’re interested in helping, wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and don’t forget your refillable water bottle. The event date is pending good weather. The rain date is Sunday May 10.
Field and Stream Rescue Team holds several projects per year and count on community volunteers to participate in cleaning, general stream rehabilitation, and native tree and shrub plantings. Their goal is to educate communities through hands-on activities and create an overall cleaner, more natural environment.
The Bronte Creek cleanup will remove debris and litter to reduce potential harmful material from entering Lake Ontario, our fresh water resource. Cleanups also improve water flow and reduce stagnant water where mosquitoes breed.
