Marathon closes Lakeshore Rd. March 1 at Appleby Line
If you're driving between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 1 avoid Lakeshore Rd between Burloak and Brant because it will be closed.
Detours will also affect bus routes 2,3,10 and 20 to make way for the 20th Chilly Half Marathon and Frosty 5k Run in support of cancer care at Joseph Brant Hospital.
If you live on Lakeshore Road or on any side street, you have three access options: Residents on the north side of Lakeshore Road who need access during the race can drive in a westerly direction to or from the nearest side street when the way is clear of emergency vehicles,
Residents on the south side of Lakeshore Road who need access during the race can call VR Pro at 905-220-1785 or email in advance firstname.lastname@example.org. One of two event vehicles will be promptly dispatched to escort your vehicle through the line of runners.
Parking will be allowed on side streets on the north side of Lakeshore Road from 6 p.m. on February 28 to 6 p.m. on March 1 except where “no parking” or “no stopping” signs are in place. Residents can walk along or across Lakeshore Road to access these parked vehicles during the event.
The Trillium College Chilly Half Marathon starts in front of City Hall on Brant Street at 10:05 a.m. and travels south to Lakeshore Road, west to Eastport Drive, east in the south lane of Lakeshore Road to Burloak Drive, then using the centre lane of Lakeshore Road, travels west to Brant Street, north on Brant Street to the finish line in front of City Hall.
The CIBC Wood Gundy Frosty 5k starts on Lakeshore Road at Brant Street at 10:05 a.m. and travels east in the south lane of Lakeshore Road to Rossmore Boulevard then turns around to travel west in the centre lane of Lakeshore Road to Brant Street then north to the finish line at City Hall.
Brant Street from Ontario Street to Elgin Street, and James Street from John Street to Brant Street from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Brant Street, Lakeshore Road to Elgin Street from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
(access to Bunton’s Wharf via Locust Street)
Lakeshore Road, Brant Street to Eastport Drive from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m.
Lakeshore Road, Brant Street to just west of Burloak Drive from
9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. (access to Old Lakeshore Road from the west maintained with delays).
The three traffic lanes on Lakeshore Road will be separated by two lines of cones from Burloak Drive to Maple Avenue: north lane emergency vehicles, centre lane westbound runners, and south lane eastbound runners.
Police will be stationed at major intersections and traffic islands. Event marshals will also be available at minor intersections and major multi-residential driveways to assist drivers. Race notices were delivered to all residences, religious centres and businesses affected by the races.
