Inexpensive New Year’s Eve local celebrations

2015 is just around the corner but you don’t have to spend a fortune to celebrate.

Even though most of us probably won't be celebrating with the Brits in London, you can ring in the New Year with a number of inexpensive outdoor family celebrations near Appleby Line in Burlington. (Enjoy this great video from the BBC.)

New Year’s Eve Howlin’ Hikes

Join park rangers at Bronte Creek Provincial Park for evening hikes and learn to howl like coyotes then gather around the bonfire for the countdown.

A guided Coyote Howl hike will uncover some secrets about the largely misunderstood coyote. Everyone is invited to gather around the bonfire at 8:30 p.m. to welcome in the New Year during the Countdown for Kids. There are no additional fees to participate in this alcohol free New Years Eve program.

The rink will also open 9:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. The Park Store will be serving hot food and offers skate rentals in an assortment of sizes for children and adults.

For more information on ice conditions, park events and facilities please call 905-827-6911 or http://brontecreek.org/howlnhikesnewyearseve.htm#.VJriKCODnk.

New Year’s Eve Hoopla

Mountsberg Conservation will be offering a selection of activities the whole family can enjoy from 6 to 9 p.m. Take a wagon ride, view a puppet show, go on a guided hike, visit with one of Mountsberg’s owls, make a special New Year’s craft, or join in an old fashioned Country Dance with live music.

There is nothing like sitting under a starry sky around a winter campfire with a cup of tasty hot chocolate, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. Whatever you choose, the evening will fly by in a flurry of fun.

We will ring in the New Year with some treasured Mountsberg traditions by 9 p.m. so families can get younger ones home to bed and adults have time to get ready for midnight.

New Year’s Eve Hoopla tickets are $24 for adults, $15 for children (age 5 to 14 years), $15 for seniors (ages 65 years and over), $5 for preschool (ages 4 years and under) plus HST. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
